Lady Spikers gain share of lead, crushes UST

What many expected to be tough challenge turned out to be another walk in the park for the Lady Spikers.

Abi Maraño scored 14 points while Cyd Demecillo and Ara Galang added 12 and 10 respectively as La Salle sustained its hot start throughout the match to turn back 2013 Unigames champion UST Tigresses in straight sets 25-8, 27-25, 25-13.

It was a shocker of a first set as the Lady Spikers erected a 15-2 lead. Half of UST’s total point production in the entire set was from La Salle’s errors.

The Tigresses were able to put up a big fight in the second set as they lead early 5-1. It was as seesaw affair the rest of the way as both teams kept pace. A couple of deadlocks ensued down the stretch before the Lady Spikers escaped with a 27-25 win.

The three-time defending champs finally put the dagger to any possible comeback by UST as they built an insurmountable 22-6 lead and eventually grabbed their second-straight win this season.

Their next opponent will be NU this Wednesday. Both squads lead the pack at 2-0.
