This time, their match-up did not have the same air of electricity and hype as compared to the previous week. The reason is pretty obvious.
Just days after trouncing them in front of a mammoth crowd at MOA Arena, the Lady Spikers again made short work of Ateneo 25-14, 25-14, 25-19 to remain undefeated this season and extend their overall win streak to 24 games.
Abi Maraño scored 10 points while Mika Reyes and Cyd Demecillo added 8 points each for the defending champs.
Unlike the past two seasons, the talent level between the two squads is miles apart. This game was played in the smaller Fil-Oil Flying V Arena which was not even filled to the rafters.
The Lady Eagles did not have s shot at this right from the start as La Salle blitzed to 16-8 lead. With Ateneo committing an array of unforced errors, the Lady Spikers continued its offensive upswing as they rolled to an easy 25-14 win in set 1.
The second set also ended at 25-14 as Lady Spikers capitalized on the Lady Eagles’ lack of offensive options aside from Alyssa Valdez.
La Salle continued to pound its way in Set 3 to reach match point at 24-15. But Ateneo was able to score 4 straight points, mostly due to errors by the Lady Spikers. But Mika Esperanza eventually closed out the game with a win on the joust.
Valdez scored 10 markers for Lady Eagles, who drops to 5-3.
The Lady Spikers’ next opponent will be Adamson next week.
