Lady Spikers working on that Killer’s Instinct

With two straight-set wins to start the second round, things are starting to take shape for the Lady Spikers as they look to keep the momentum going in their succeeding matches.

Claiming the momentary lead in the team standings at 7-2, they will next face FEU this coming Sunday. Only a game ahead of the third place Lady Tamaraws, it is a must-win for the defending champions to further secure their spot in the top two.

In yesterday’s post game interview, Kim Dy stressed the importance of guarding against complacency regardless of opponent.

“Inside the court, you treat each team equally, walang mahina, walang malakas. Preparation for every team will be the same so yun,” said DLSU top hitter Kim Kianna Dy, who had 14 points in the Taft-based squad’s 25-15, 25-19, 25-19, win over the Lady Maroons at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Dy, who had five kills, five aces and four kill blocks, pointed out that the Lady Spikers still have a lot to work on.

“Siguro there are times na kulang (ang killer’s instinct) pa because there are times na malaki ‘yung lamang, hahabol yung mga kalaban, so that’s one thing we’re working on pa lang,” she said. “It’s a work-in-progress.”

In a season that has seen a lot of upsets and down-the-wire finishes, having that closer’s mentality is something La Salle needs to work on if they are to emerge as champions once again.
