La Salle’s Taiwan trip is about more than just basketball

The Green Archers’ UAAP preparation continues.

A few days after dropping their quarterfinal match in the FilOil tournament, the team is currently in Taiwan to once again play in the Buddha Light International Association (BLIA) Cup. Not only are they out to defend the championship which they won a year ago, they are also using this trip as an opportunity to build camaraderie.

At this point, the Green Archers are not yet playing in the level that we’d like them to be. It’s still a long way for them. Good thing that the UAAP is still two months away and that gives them more time to work on areas that need improving.

More than just the focusing on just the X’s and O’s, it’s good that Head Coach Louie Gonzalez understands the importance of developing trust within the team.

From Tiebreaker Times

With plenty of new faces to integrate, Gonzalez is hoping that the team will have a lot of “shared moments” that they can build on for their UAAP Season 81 Men’s Basketball campaign. The team arrived in Taiwan on Sunday afternoon.

“This is really big. Kasi aside from game elements, yung shared moments mahalaga eh.

“Especially itong team na ‘to, madaming bago ko eh, na from different cultures – some from high school, dalawa galing sa ibang bansa,” shared Gonzalez. “So I’ll take the opportunity as well na gumawa ng mga activities na mas makilala nila yung sarili nila, kasi sabay-sabay eh. It’s the culture eh, kumbaga.

“Even ngayon, ‘di ba binabago ko yung culture namin sa La Salle, so lahat talaga hanging pa. Wala pa kaming definite. We’re still adjusting on so many things.”

La Salle may have lost a lot of talent but we firmly believe that they still have what it takes to compete this year. If there is any lesson learned from last season, it is that having a collection of the best players may sometimes not be enough to win. Creating a solid team foundation is something the coaching staff is trying to achieve.
