At the very least, Shai Del Campo should be in the conversation as a potential candidate for the Rookie of the Year gong in the UAAP Season 81 Women’s Football Tournament.
Del Campo propelled the De La Salle University Women’s Football Team to a 5-1 victory over the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, Wednesday afternoon, at the Circulo Verde field in Quezon City.
The De La Salle Zobel alumna scored four goals at the 8th, 32nd, 45+3 and 71st minutes to secure all three points for the Green & White while her batchmate, Maye Mendano, put the ball at the back of the net at the 50th minute.
Long-time coach Hans-Peter Smit shared, “From the last game (vs UP), I really told Shai just to relax, maintain composure, she’ll get her goal, which she did and I said you go get your second goal, which she did. Today I told her, you’re gonna get your hat-trick, which she did. I said during halftime, go for one more, why not?”
With those four strikes, Del Campo increased her personal tally in Season 81 to seven goals in just four games. In terms of her team’s standing in the competition, La Salle now has a good grip on 1st place with 10 points.
La Salle’s inaugural assignment for the second round is yet to be announced as the tournament will go into a ceasefire.
