The De La Salle University Lady Archers hit a roadblock on their quest to book a ticket to the Final Four in the UAAP Season 82 Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Up against the current second seed in the standings, the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigresses, the Lady Archers tasted defeat with a 49-71 result, Wednesday morning at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila.
The result leaves La Salle at 5th place in the elimination round with a record of 6-6.
Similar to both teams’ first-round encounter, La Salle suffered a poor shooting day that set the tone of its loss. The Lady Archers were only able to sink two three-pointers out of 22 attempts compared to the Growling Tigresses’ 11-out-of-34.
Second chance points also proved to a burden to La Salle as it only mustered nine versus UST’s 16. The Growling Tigresses’ defense proved to be too much as well as it forced the Lady Archers to commit 25 turnovers and conceded 30 points from them. The Lady Archers eventually suffered a deficit as wide as 23 points in the contest.
Maureen Okoli was the lone bright spot for La Salle as she delivered 11 points alongside eight rebounds. Rookie Bea Dalisay followed suit with eight baskets while Charmaine Torres contributed 10 rebounds.
La Salle hopes to revive its push to enter the Final Four when it takes on the UP Fighting Maroons on Sunday, 10:00 AM at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
