De La Salle University continued its winning ways in the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Tournament by scoring another straight-set win, this time against Far Eastern University, 25-20, 25-17, 25-22, on Wednesday afternoon at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
The Lady Spikers, who also swept Adamson University last time out, rose to 2-0 while the Lady Tamaraws absorbed their first loss for a 1-1 slate.
Despite the second straight win, La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo was far from satisfied.
“Medyo nag-struggle nga kasi sobrang erratic, parang tentative yung galaw nila. Pinaalalahanan lang namin na bumalik sa sistema,” said Orcullo.
The Lady Spikers were ahead by six midway through the third, 19-13, but the Lady Tamaraws persevered through the hits of bench players Alyzza Devosora, Chai Papa, and Ann Asis to inch within one, 22-23.
However, Asis’ service in the next play went straight to the net to give La Salle the match point before Angel Canino capitalized on an FEU mis-received ball, tipping it for the win in one hour and 28 minutes.
“Actually, nakukulangan pa po talaga (sa effort). Lahat naman po kami sa team nakukulangan pa po sa galaw namin which means kailangan pa po naming mag doble kayod sa training,” said Canino, who finished with a game-high 13 points and seven excellent receptions.
Shevana Laput contributed 10 points, while Thea Gagate and Alleiah Malaluan had eight and seven points, respectively for the Lady Spikers.
Libero Lyka De Leon also dazzled in her role with 16 excellent digs on 29 attempts and 12 receptions on 21 attempts.
Gerzel Petallo had seven points, 10 receptions, and eight digs for the losing cause.
Faida Bakanke, Chen Tagaod, Jean Asis, and Devosora also supplied six points apiece for the Lady Tamaraws.
Both teams will be back on Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
La Salle will square off against University of Santo Tomas at 3 p.m. while Far Eastern University will clash with University of the East earlier at 1 p.m.
