As part of their preparation for the UAAP, the Green Archers travelled south for a series of tune-up matches.
First stop was Iloilo City wherein they battled local club team SkyCable last Tuesday. The game was part of the festivities in celebration of the city’s 80th charter day. The team lost to their veteran-laden opponent 68-76.
Aljun Melecio topscored with 18 points while Ricci Rivero and Kib Montalbo added 15 and 13 each for the undermanned Green Archers who played without Ben Mbala and Abu Tratter.
Mbala is currently in Brazil training for the Cameroon national team who will play in the upcoming FIBA Aftrobasket. He will miss at least the first two games of La Salle in the UAAP when the season starts this September.
SkyCable is composed mostly of former professional players like Willie Miller, Larry Rodriguez, Leo Najorda and JR Cawaling. Cameroonian center Landry Sanjo led the team in scoring with 19 points.
The Green Archers are currently in Davao City to participate in the 4-team Kadayawan Festival Basketball Tournament. They play UST later and then FEU and the Davao All-Stars in the succeeding two days.
