La Salle’s endgame charge a little too late as they fall to UP

La Salle’s late fightback falls short as they lose to UP 61-67 Sunday for their second defeat of the season.

The Green Archers dictated the pace in the first half as they led by 6 in a low-scoring first half. The Fighting Maroons however caught fire offensively to start the third quarter to seize control of the match entering the final frame.

With the deficit ballooning to 14 points in the 4th, La Salle went on a furious 13 to nothing run to trim UP’s lead to just one point with with under three minutes remaining. Not wanting another endgame meltdown like in their previous game, UP managed to weather the Archers’ rally by scoring on four quick points with a minute left to eventually snap their 3-game losing skid.

The Green Archers, now down to just 11 players following the injury of captain Kib Montalbo, was led by Justine Baltazar who finished with another double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Santi Santillan and Aljun Melecio followed with 12 points apiece.

The Green Archers, now with a 2-2 record looks to bounce back this coming Wednesday against UST.
