Riding on the wave of momentum following their win over archrivals Ateneo de Manila University, the De La Salle University Lady Archers clinched consecutive victories for the first time in the UAAP Season 82 Women’s Basketball Tournament with a 64-57 result against the University of the East Lady Warriors.
Kent Pastrana led the way for La Salle with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Maureen Okoli followed suit with 10 markers and six boards. Angel Quingco seized 11 rebounds while Charmaine Torres produced eight points and five assists.
The outcome elevates La Salle’s standings in the elimination round to 5-5.
“Of course, we’re taking it one game at a time for us to survive and enter the Final Four,” said head coach Cholo Villanueva. “We’re not looking that far. We need to outwork our opponents in each possession and win each possession and it could only lead to a win.”
La Salle never allowed UE to have a taste of the lead at any point of the contest and the Lady Archers eventually enjoyed a 24-point lead over the Lady Archers deep in the second half. Perimeter and bench points were the major differences as the Green and White 32 and 17 respectively compared to UE’s 11 and seven.
La Salle hopes to extend its winning streak to three games when it faces Far Eastern University on October 19, 2019, 10:00 AM at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
